30 Day Book Challenge // Day 15: A Non-Fiction Book You Love

Day 15: A Non-Fiction Book You Love

I'm a little late to the party with this post, but yesterday was day 15, which focuses on a non-fiction book you love.

There are so many non-fiction book that I absolutely adore. As a historian, I've read a wide range of non-fiction books that have taught me something, that I still know inside out! On top of that, I've been introduced to a number of self-help and personal development books by my boyfriend, as well as finding a huge amount of other non-fiction books myself that I really enjoyed.

My choice? I had to go with Rupi Kaur's poetry books.

I originally came across Rupi Kaur's work on social media. A few years ago, there was some sort of Rupi Kaur phenomenon, and I saw her work plastered all over my instagram and pinterest feeds! I really liked the simplistic style of writing, and I found myself more and more drawn to her work. On a trip to Hay-On-Wye with my boyfriend a few months ago, we found a bookshop that specialised in poetry, and we each bought ourselves a Rupi Kaur collection; he bought Milk and Honey, and I bought The Sun and Her Flowers.

I think the reason that her poetry continues to speak to me is because of the messages it sends. My favourite poem of hers at the moment, for example, is 'legacy', which speaks of the importance of building up fellow women; a cause that I am fully in support of!

I haven't read a lot of poetry, but I am hoping to explore more in the future. I think it's so beautiful how poetry can send such beautiful and important messages through its simplicity, and I'm glad I was introduced to it by Rupi Kaur.
